Dr Deon Van Zyl

obstetrician and gynaecologist

Dr Deon van Zyl was born in Bloemfontein in 1979 and grew up in the town of Kimberley. After matriculating at Diamantveld High School, he obtained his medical degree (MBChB) at the University of Stellenbosch. This was where he first became interested in Obstetrics.

He went on to complete his internship at Tygerberg Hospital before relocating back home to Kimberley to do his community service year. He enjoyed his time in the Obstetric and Gynaecology departments so much that he decided to stay at Kimberley Hospital and complete his Diploma in Obstetrics.

In 2007, Dr van Zyl spent a year working as a general practitioner before relocating to Cape Town in 2008 to start specialising. The following year he began his time as a registrar in the beautiful town of Worcester, where he gained a wealth of experience managing obstetrical and gynaecological cases. The rest of his training was completed at Tygerberg Hospital.

Dr van Zyl graduated as a Fellow in Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the South African College of Medicine in 2012 and also completed his Master's degree in Medicine, with a thesis on the seasonal variation in pre-eclampsia. In 2013, Dr van Zyl joined Panorama Mediclinic, the first hospital planned and commissioned just three years after the founding of the Mediclinic private hospital group, which opened its doors in August 1986.

Dr van Zyl combines his expertise, passion and empathy with modern gynaecological and delivery techniques to provide his patients with positive experiences at Panorama Mediclinic. He aims to empower women with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions about their healthcare and pregnancies.
